exam tip #1
Draw up a revision timetable and stick to it.
Spread your tasks out so that your revision is varied, mixing areas that you feel you’re good at, with those you find more difficult.
Then set yourself attainable goals
This is the best way to evaluate how much time you have before your exams and helps you realise how much time you really have, not how much you think you have.
exam tip #2
Divide your study into small portions – rather than look at it as one huge lump. Then you can handle it, one piece at a time.
This tip needs no explanation, dividing your study into portions is an easier way to tackle revision. For maths divide your exam revision into the topics of the unit.
exam tip #3
Stay cool under pressure by identifying a good study space.
Develop good study habits and set priorities.
Take regular breaks and eat & sleep well.
If there is a method for preparing for exams it is definatley getting lots of sleep. It is far easier to study when you are not tired and sleepy because your brain is focousing only on the task at hand.
I got theese tips from Fresh 92.7. Theese tips are reputable because the radio station is generally directed to older teenagers, therefore they want to get their ratings up so they use topics of interest. The topic of interest for this time of year is no doubt exams. What a better way to get ratings up and keep the audience happy.

This week I would like you to consider why boys generally find books in the fantasy and science fiction genres more appealling than other genres.Consider some reasons for this (at least 3).Consider whether this relates to you.Consider whether this relates to other male readers that you know (friends, family etc). What is your favourite genre and why?Don't forget to respond to someone's post from last week and upload yours if you forgot to over the weekend.
My three reasons are, boys like fantasy because anything can happen (it is always unpredictable), boys like the way they are usually outside the norm (not every day life stuff) and my last reason is that boys like it because they can sometimes relate to the characters.
I dont think this relates to me particulary, I prefer sports books, crime and autobiography books on sports people. Today I am reading "The Jigsaw Man" which is an autobiography on Kevin Sheedy.

This will be our final reflection on poetry. Please consider your response carefully.Poetry has been around for a long time and is still a very popular form of literature. Please consider the following points. You may respond to them as individual points or as a general response. Why do you think poetry has remained popular over centuries and many generations? What are the most popular forms of poetry in today's society? What role do you think poetry has to play in our lives? What is it about poetry that appeals to people? What sort of poetry do you enjoy most (either to read or to write)?Think of a poem that you know about. What is it called? Who wrote it? What type of poem is it? What is it about this poem that makes it relevant and memorable to you?
I think poetry has remained popular because it is the one form of literature you can express your self freely. That is very important in a society like today. Today there are many forms of entertainment that weren’t available long ago I find it quite interesting that the one form of entertainment they used centuries ago is still as popular today as it was then.
Today there are many new styles of poetry than there was when it was first introduced. Things like Haiku and acrostic poems have only been developed more recently. Today’s form of poetry is quite strict on things like how many syllables in a line, how many line and where to rhyme the words.
Poetry plays a small role in my life in particular, I only use it at school. At home I have no interest in poetry. I believe the younger generation today only witnesses poetry at school. There are so many more electronic things that we find interesting.
The thing about poetry that appeals to people is the way the author expresses their feelings. Every author has different feelings and different ways of describing them. This is where the many different forms of poetry come into play. Some forms suite some authors and others may suite other authors.
Poetry is probably my least favourite part of the literature we learn today at school. I find the poems that have certain rules are easier to write because they have guidelines. Things like the Japanese Haiku are easy because they have rules.
My favourite poem would definatley be the nursery rhyme "jack and Jill" it is always in my head because when i read child books when i was young it was one of my favourite poems of the book.

I think the author is trying to tell us we live for poetry, that everything else we do is nessicary for us to keep hearing and listening poetry. From the way he lists jobs and professions as noble pursuits I think that he thinks peotry rules them all.
I dont agree at all, I think it should all be on an even par. Jobs are just as important as poetry and literature. You need a successfull career to enjoy life.
The poems I found were in the death notices in the paper.
With my heart aching
I wonder why
You were taken so suddenley
With no good bye
My love for you son
Cannot be measured
Your lifes gift to me
will be forever treasured
Its not what we write
Its not what we say
Its how we remember you
In our own special way
The purpose of theese being poetry because they are very deep and meaningful, prose cannot get the message across about how upset they are. Many death notices are followed by poems written by the family and friends grieving for the loss of the deceased person.

How did the clip make you feel? Why?
Were there any facts that you found particularly interesting?
Was there any information that you don't think is corect?
Was there anything stated that you disagree with? Why?
What does it make you think about with regard to your own life?
The clip actually caught me off guard about how much the world is changing. I was suprised to see the facts on how much we rely on the internet today. The clip said it will be used for almost everything in the near future. The facts of particular intrest to me were:
"In 10 years time it is predicted that the number one English speaking country in the world wil be china" This fact can't be accurate.
"the number of text messages sent and recieved inb one day exeedsthe popualtion of the planet" I wasnt supprised at all with this fact. Many people I know send more than 10 messages a day, riddiculus i know.
I thought the information was fairly easy to understand and it we wont know if it is correct untill we reach it. I know that in my lifetime there will be many changes in technology and society for good and bad. But this has been happening since the beginning of time, my suggestion is to "go with the flow".

I believe elite sportsman should be able to use any recreational drug they desire. If the drug was performance enhancing it wouldnt be called 'recreational'. scientists have proved ecstasy to be performance enhancing so therfore it should not be reffered to as a recreational drug anymore but a performance ehancing drug. Alcohol is definatley not performance enhancing, it is a depressent, since when has it been an advantage to have slow reflexes in a competitive sport? It should be acceptable to use recreational drugs aslong as they have no affect on your performance.
Elite clubs should and have every right to test their players for anything they want. the players sign a contract when they sign up with a club and therefor eagree to the clubs rules. The most common rule in every elite sporting club is 'I will not take drugs to enhance my performance and will not take drugs that will detireate my fitness'. I think it is acceptable for a club to test their players for recreational drugs because they want to get the most out of them as possible.
There should be an internal penalty handed out by the players respective clubs. Whether that be a heavy fine or a suspension it should depend on the seriousness of the case.

The topic for your post today is book vs movie.I want you to discuss your opinion as to whether books are better than the movie they are based on or visa versa. You need to respond with some examples from your own experience to back up your arguement. You should aim for 2-3 properly structured paragraphs.
I think movies are way better than books. They get straight to the point and miss out the small unnessicary details. For example all the Harry Potter movies. I have read the books as well as seen the movies. It is much easier to follow when you watch the movie and requires less effort to interprete.
On the contrary, many may say that the books are better than the movies because they look deeper into the life of the character and makes the story more meaning full. It is purely a matter of opinion to wheteher the books or the movies are better and as Harry Potter is the only example I know of I will end my post here.

Akermanis sweet or sour?
Jason Akermanis, perhaps the most infamous player to have ever played the game. The over confident player who will do anything to be in the spotlight. Although I must admit, he is very good. Former brownlow medalist and 3 time premiership player akermanis has certanly got his
Tuesdays issue of the Herald Sun put Jason Akermanis in the spotlight. Rarely beaten with speed, Akermanis is outraged and accuses his opponent of blood doping. The AFl conduts random drug tests through out every week of the year, even in the off season! Any player would be stupid to experiement with drugs of any kind.
The column he wrote displays the typical character of Jason Akermanis, kicked out of Brisbane for harrasing the coach and displaying numerous amounts of disrespect towards his team mates. Anyone knows he has perhaps the biggest head going round.
Akermanis is a crowd pleaser, however his bright joyful personality seen when he is in form can very quickly turn sour if something goes wrong. His trade mark, which is my favourite is the "handstand"in the goal square. On a win at his home ground he will go to the square and kiss the ground whils doing a handstand, again "seeking attention".

In the holidays I read "Harry Potter and the deathly hallows", I thought it was quite good as there were lots of twists. Lord voldemort is back, terrorising and destroying people who are not "pure blood" (such as hermione granger). Harry is the only wizard in the world who can defeat Lord voldemort and vice versa. This conflict between each other has carried on through out the 7 books and has been the key feature of the storyline. Harry, Ron and Hermione go on a journey to destroy Lord Voldemorts horcrux's which is neccisary to defeat Lord Voldemort himself. The three friends must destroy objects of dark magic, theese objects are guarded heavily and dangerous obsticles worse than death stand in the way. On top of that Lord Voldemorts followers are forever trying to capture harry and appear every time "Voldemort" is mentioned.
The series "Harry Potter" is famous worldwide. Millions and millions of people of all ages have read through the series to finally discover if harry defeats Lord Voldemort. Harry Potter is appealing to all ages and therefore will sell many novels, I think that the fact that it is the last book of the series will sell more books. I think on the news when the book first came out that 15 books sell every second worldwide. People sleep in line outside bookshops because they are so desperate to find out what happens in the end. Let alone the scandal where someone stole the book and took pictures of all 600 pages and posted them on the internet, this shows that the book was well sought after.
As I mentiond above, this book is the last of an incredible series written by J.K Rowling. Rowling is wealthier than the queen of england through 7 books which shows the intrest by the world.

I am looking forward to cross country skiing next week. Even though it wasnt my number one preference I am glad I am doing it now. Origionally I chose surfing which is close to where I live, we have big swell on yorkes and it attracts many professional surfers. I can surf anytime so going on a cross country skiing trip will be completley new to me. Even though I have skied many times before, camping in the snow will be unreal and very different.
The thing I will find most challenging on the trip will be the skiing part of it. I have recentley torn my hamstring and after 10 weeks of rest I played footy for the first time last week. The hamstring is very weak at the moment so I will find it difficult to walk through the snow with weight on my back. With the weather being below zero degrees it will be even harder to get the blood flowing through the leg to the parts most needed.
I hate traveling! The tweleve hours on the bus will be like tourture to me. I cant sleep in a sitting position and I often get cramp if I sit on my hamstring for too long. I get very grumpy when I am tired so any one who annoys me will cop a mouthful of unpleasent words. I am a boarder so I live a pretty independant life, therefore cooking and cleaning is nothing new to me.
I think challanging yourself is very important. I challenge myself wherever I can, motivation is the key to gettin a positive outcome of your challange. Perservearance plays another important role in challangeing your self, quite often you will not succeed on your first attempt therefore you must keep trying.
Overall i am looking forward to learning new skills and gaining knowledge about the outdoors.

FRIDAY 15th of june
Let me start by saying I know nothing about shakespeare apart from what we learnt on thursday. I have already read them and highlighted key points that may be useful in the essay. I cant say i have ever read peoms nor seen any of shakespeares plays. I have never come across a script for one of his plays, however i have seen "Ten things I hate about you" as we studied it in english last year. i thought is was quite a good movie untill we pulled it apart, pulling a movie apart in pieces ruins them for me. I know that Shakespeare is known as one of the best playwrites and poets of all time, this is a very good achievement and is recognised well today. I hate doing drama type things so you would never see me in the play, however i would be quite interested in going to see they play when it is finished.
In theartre it is rumoured that if you you mention the play "macbeth" you will be cursed.
There is a way to counter the curse. If "macbeth" is mentioned backstage the person must leave the room and turn around three times anticlockwise (as if to go back in time) and must then knock on the door three times to be granted permission to re enter the room.

I regularly use the computer to search my favourite topics. By simply typing in the typical "sport" or "cars" the computer comes up with quite a broad range of books for you to choose from. Then you simply have to find the book according the the barcode number that the computer lists for you. I find this the easiest and most effective way to find a new series or genre of books to read. Once a new book of a series comes out (like the recent specky magee) I look for it when i need a new book to read. i only read when I have to so i know that the computer is a fast and efficient way to find new material.
I judge my stratergie by how much i enjoy the book i have found, if i dont like the book I will stop reading it and try a new method of finding a novel.
I recently tried a new stratergy of finding novels, i looke dthrough the fiction section and found a cover that appealed to me, i then read the blurb and thought it may suit my interests. So far the book has been quite interesting. I know this is exactly the wrong way to do it, (or so I have heard0 but it has worked for me so I will probably use this method next time. I wouldnt recomend this to everyone I think it is just a coincidence that I picked a good book from random. i would reccomend the library database to anyone looking for a new book.

You have all started reading a new novel of your own choice in the last couple of weeks. I would like you to reflect on the role of character in that novel. In a well structured couple of paragraphs I would like you to address the following points with regard to the protagonist in your story:Paragraph 1Name, age, physical description of your characterTheir life within the story (who are they, who do they associate with, what are the issues they face?)Whether they are the narrator or they are being narratedParagraph 2Why has the author created this character? (why that gender, age, place in family etc)Paragraph 3If the protagonist was the opposite gender to what they have been written as, how would the stroy be different and why?
The book I am reading at the moment is called "Shutter Island" by Dennis Lehane. I have only just started the book and find it quite intersting and has a good storyline so far however i am only 15 pages in.
The protagonist's name is Teddy Daniels who from what I can tell he is quite a keen fisherman/ boatsmen and his father died on a boat that was shipwrecked. He is in his early thirties and has quite a slim build. The story is written in second person so teddy is being narrated, "Since that trip as a boy, teddy had never enjoyed being out on the water, took no pleasure from such a lack of land, of visions of land, thingsyou could reach out and touch without your hands dissolving into them."
I have no idea why the author made Teddy a character because i gavent read enough about the story. Teddy is obviously male, he is an only child from what i can tell i think he is in early 30's and lives with his mum.
The stroy would be quite similar if the character was female. only spelling things would change like he/she, his/hers etc. This would have to be changed for the novel to be correct. As i have mentioned I havent really read enough of the book to coment any further than what i have.

I diary is traditionally a private way to reflect on different things. A diary quite often contains personal details and feeling expressed by the author. At no point should a diary be read or shared with anyone without the readers permission. A blog however is alot more open to the general public and viewed quite often by anyone. The contents of a blog are written to entertain or inform the reader compared to the diary.
It depends on what the author is intending on doing. If he wants to have his entry read by the public then he or she would choose to do a blog instead of a diary.

Entry #2
The first book I read was called Anne Frank it is a series novel of "The story of" series. the austhors name is Jim Pipe and was published in 2006. Basically the book is about WW1 and the fear that everyone expierienced in Europe. When Hitler was given power he wanted to eliminate the Jewish populations in England. "The story of Anne Frank" is about a young girl and her family trying to hide from the deathly Nazis who were trying to hunt them down.
The second short novel I read was called Cruel Nest by Gary Crew. It belongs to the series of "Crime waves" and was first published in 2001.. The book is about a family who takes in foster children and cares for them. This certain foster childs name is Jade lawerence.
The book I preffered the most was Cruel Nest (gary crew) this was because that Anne Frank was in cartoon form and was quite difficult to follow. However i do prefer true storys to fiction novels so t makes it hard to compare.
I believe Anne Frank would have been better if it was a bit longer and not in cartoon form. Cruel Nest had a hard story line to follow so it made it hard to understand fully.
I prefer novel as a pose to short stories simply because with a novel you dont have to change the book as often as a short storie. The thing I hate most is finding a book to read because i onlylike certain types of books. I find the longer the book the better because you dont have to go to the troble of finding another book as often. I wouldnt select a book from the short storie section again.

myself as a reader
my name is stefdog #15
I am a strong but slow reader, and find it hard to concerntrate for long periods of time. This makes it hard to read a long book. I often read during long journeys in the car. I have read the harry potter series and I will be sure to read the next one. I cant say i have read many books in my life to estimate around 30. I know this is nothing compared to some people and if I had the time to read more I would.
I find reading relaxing, it is good to do when you want some quiet time to yourself. I am looking forward to reading some interesting books in class.
